Not covered by Audi but I had glass insurance on my auto policy. Next came the GPS system getting lost. It took 12 days to fix due to parts. Then came warning lights coming on telling of steering malfunction and distance errors. That was caused by a loose wire to a sensor another few days in the shop. The latest … is a drivetrain warning that is real. The whole car started vibrating. It goes back on Monday. This is all in the space of less than 9 months. Really poor quality!!! It's been 6 months and there haven't been any additional problems so I'm upping my review to 3 stars. It is a nice vehicle but the original quality was very poor. One other note. If you are interested in a remote starter, forget Audi. Second update In the past year I've had 3 instances of losing power and a warning coming up that stated drive train malfunction. If I turned the car off and restarted it went away. Checking on the internet, I'm not alone regarding this problem and apparently Audi can't find it because it's gone when they look for it. I will be dumping this vehicle before my warranty expires. I'm done with Audi. Third update - water pump went after 34,000 miles. John,01/01/ TFSI Prestige quattro 4dr SUV AWD ( 6cyl S/C 8A)Audi Q7 is by far one of the best driving SUVs I have owned. Now, before I go further; I have to be clear about this: This is a premium ride. It is meant for people who do not mind paying a premium for maintenance in terms of gas and normal maintenance. I have seen several one star reviews on here and other sites because the tires were $350 a piece. One has to be realistic; the OEM … tires are made in Germany by Goodyear and commands a premium price since they are runflats and due to the unique size which is not commonly produced. Now to the car: The car drives and handles perfectly for its size. For most people, the (Turbo) is more than adequate but the (supercharged) provides excellent acceleration when the car is loaded with 6 people and their stuff. I own the and the supercharger noise is very muted and not annoying. The ride comfort is excellent and the vehicle corners without too much lean. The space in 3rd row is more than adequate for kids but adults may find it a bit tight during long trips. The 2nd row does fold, slide, or flip up (unlike The Benz GLS450 which does not slide). The virtual cockpit and the controls require a steep learning curve. The models with Driver Assist packages is an excellent option if you are living in congested areas or in areas with stop-and-go traffic. Yes, the vehicle requires premium gas due to the forced-induction motor, but the gas mileage is excellent (approx 30 in highway @70-75 mph, and approx 18 to 20 in city, avg is approx 18 to 19 for the year in mixed driving). The build quality and build materials are exceptional. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase of this vehicle. Update: No complaints! Regular oil changes; had a recall done by Audi. Overall impressive vehicle. I was saddened to see the supercharged engine go away with the new model!4 out of 5 starsGreat all around vehicleAlan564,07/23/ TFSI Prestige quattro 4dr SUV AWD ( 6cyl S/C 8A)I got this car for its high towing capacity for a car this size, and it can fit in a standard garage. I terms of power, it has plenty, and the liter has to turbo lag, because it has a supercharger. In terms of negatives are the run-flat tires which give a rough ride, and with no spare tire, I hope they work. Tire technology is evolving so hopefully new self-repairing tires will … replace them soon. All the driver assistance features work pretty well, but they can be complex to learn. On other Audi's and on the 2020 Q7 they have gone to a touchscreen display, but in AZ where its bright and hot, the touchscreens are not good. I'm glad I got this version before the change. Only had the car a few weeks, but so far, so good. Just be warned, this car, and maybe many today are complex and take some time to learn. Many of the "features" can be more annoying than helpful, until you learn how to turn them off. The third row seats are really emergency only but good to have. I have the 23 speaker audio system, and in my opinion, sound could be better. Also, many warning messages are useless. They tell you to see the users guide. Yeah right. Good luck finding anything in it. Overall, a solid car, not cheap, but worth the cost. Update: While the car is performing good, there are some annoyances that have come up. One is the navigation system that doesn't seem to recognize commands good (this is the Google based system, not Siri with Apple Carplay) For example, I said "Go to McDonalds" a very simple command, and it came back asking me if I meant McDonald Mortuary about 500 miles away. Its often very hard to pinpoint a destination. Second, the engine stop-start drives me batty. Not the system working, but what it does when I put my car in the garage, or stop by my mailbox to get my mail. One of three things happen, 1) nothing, the car engine stays running, 2) the engine stops, but the car is still "ready" or 3) the car turns completely off. Ir seems almost completely random what it picks. So go get my mail, and say #3 occurs, now when I get back in the car, I have to press the start/stop button to get going. If #2 occurred, and I press the start/stop button, now the car will turn off, so I have to press it again to start it. Often, I'll pull in my garage, and the car will go off, so not realizing it I press the start/stop to turn the car off, like a normal person would, and the car starts. Hopefully whomever in Germany who created this system was fired. There there is the automatic front breaking. Twice it has thought I was going to crash into something, and nothing was really there. Luckily, it didn't slam on the brakes, just the working display turned on. Finally this car has adoptive cruise control and it reads the speed limit signs. Lets say the speed limit is 45 but I boost it up to 50. Everything is fine until the speed limit changes to 40. Now the car will slam on the brakes to go 40, but the traffic was moving at 50. How I haven't been rear-ended, I do not know. Some of this is not the car's fault, but where humans just ignore stupid speed limit changes, this car follows them. I was driving on the highway to 65, the speed limit, and out-of-the-blue, maybe on a side street it sees a 35mph sign, slams on the brakes again. This is VERY VERY dangerous. In general, this is a car that thinks its smarter than it actually is, causing you to have to undo its wrong decisions. Comments: B&O Sound is fantastic, Comfort Seats excellent (massage nice to keep you awake but not much more), performance and handling outstanding for an SUV, build quality and safety great, electronics relatively easy to use, good looking car. FATAL FLAW: TIRES-THERE IS NO SPARE TIRE AND TIRES ARE … HARD TO FIND FOR THE 21" I have gotten an amazing 5 flat/damaged tires in 1 year and discovered the hard way that a) there was no spare tire and b) run flats only work to limp you to a service facility. Try being stuck 5 states away with a screw in your tire on a family trip on a Sunday where the nearest tire that fits your car is another 5 states away and would take 2-3 days to get to the local dealer. I got the 21" wheels which have made finding tires even harder-have YET to find an Audi dealer (my local or when have had issues while traveling) who has them in stock, much less local tire place. And every time it happens I'm looking at $700-900 between the tire cost ($300-400), mounting and balancing. Had no idea when I bought the car it didn't have a spare as this is something I just assumed it did (and I have a '16 S6 which has one). And will NEVER buy a car with any sort of large/nicer wheels without seeing what it's like to get those particular tires. Also, the car comes with Summer Tires which need to be switched for Winter Tires (separate purchase of course)...which is sort of ridiculous on an SUV, another major pain and expense.
Sometime next year, Audi Philippines will be introducing a heavily refreshed Q7 and with it comes styling heavily influenced by its flagship Q8. But before that happens, there’s this: the 2019 Q7. It’s hard to imagine but 10 years ago, Audi didn’t have SUVs. Sure, they built a name around the quattro all-wheel drive, but they had no high-riding, family-oriented vehicles. It’s astonishing therefore how Audi’s managed to get the SUV game so right. Compared to its premium-priced compatriots, they’ve managed to build winner after winner after winner, and the Q7 is no different. Determined to future-proof this three-row SUV, they tapped the MLB-Evo platform—the very same one that underpins the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and the Lamborghini Urus. With that, it’s managed to shed around 300 kilograms—an enormous saving even on a two-ton (1,950 kilograms to be exact) car while also offering extra chassis stiffness thanks to reinforcements dubbed “torsion rings.” This should be good news because despite a dizzying array of engine options, the base model makes do with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Don’t fret though because with direct fuel injection and turbocharging, it makes 252 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque—figures that match some of the more popular mid-sized SUVs, premium or otherwise. Even better, it uses a proper 8-speed torque converter automatic to handle all that twist. Audi claims that the century mark is dispatched in just seconds, an impressive number but probably not the best criterion on which it’ll be judged day to day. Since it’s a 7-seater, 5-meter long, wide SUV, standing starts seem a little gauche. What’s important to the would-be buyer is how the Q7 utilizes all this power to effortlessly merge with traffic, be it at highway speeds or trudging along EDSA. Equally great is how the 8-speed gearbox handles all this power. It’s smooth, well-mannered, and responsive. Moreover, the car is refined keeping the outside world hushed even at triple digit speeds. With steel springs as standard, the Q7 takes on a permissive approach to its ride. There’s a bit more float here, but at least the ride is a match for the character of its drivetrain. There’s an odd low speed niggle, especially when going over expansion joints, but the overall experience is agreeable; definitely better than any of its German rivals. Even better, Audi has managed to disguise the Q7’s mass with linear steering. It’s lacking in feedback and a bit light, but it does result in sedan-like quickness. With generous greenhouses all around, it’s easy to place it despite its size. On the flipside, it doesn’t communicate intimately with the road, but perhaps that’s not part of its CV as a large SUV. In fact, for those in the back seat, this could be deemed desirable. Audi’s decision to mold the Q7 into a more isolated, more opulent experience continues inside. The brushed metal applique, geometric forms, and supreme fit and finish serve this car well and are fitting for a car priced close to 6 million pesos. The treatment here is more of smart, modern, and sensible luxury rather than an ostentatious one. Plus, dig deeper and it’s actually well-speced with power front seats, four-zone climate control, and an electrically retractable third row. The only thing missing would be the vaunted Virtual Cockpit instrumentation and that’s reserved solely for high trim models. The MMI interface, with its combination of buttons, a toggle switches, and a rotary knob, is surprisingly easy to use but because it’s located north of the shifter, requires a reach for those with short arms. Next to the expansive cabin, the 8-inch (retractable) infotainment screen is pleasant enough to look at, but the graphics do come across as low-rent at times. Moreover, it does obstruct traffic occasionally. The Q7’s close to three-meter wheelbase and squared-off roofline translates into an SUV with commendable room across all three rows. Naturally, the front is capacious, but those in the second and third row are treated just as well. With children the most likely occupants of the third row, it’s worth saying that the second-row seats require some muscle to get out of the way. Still, they slide in a split adding to flexibility. With the third row up, there’s room for a couple of grocery bags. Flatten them and it grows to 770 liters. Fold the second row too, and it can actually swallow a whopping 1,955 liters. In the broadest sense, the Q7 isn’t the most visually striking or appealing car to look at. However, its sense of understatement seems more becoming of an Audi. Its biggest success is mainly at how it manages to cut its bulk by using strong horizontal lines. The only thing that betrays its size? The 19-inch wheels and tires which look rather small next to the metal work surrounding it. Audi’s brand claim has always been to use technology to deliver the gains that other carmakers use more obvious means to achieve and often court compromise for the sake of. With that in mind, the Q7 comes as a serious piece of work—one that combines a practical, brilliantly-constructed cabin with immaculate road manners, and upper-class imperiousness. What’s New for 2020? On the outside, Audi has brought a lot of A8 and Q8 styling, including a larger grille, a fresh headlight design, and - believe it or not – the Q7 is now just a hair longer than the 2019 model. That extra length is attributed solely to the new front fascia which also has a fresh, more aggressive look. The interior now featured Audi’s twin-screen infotainment system – the same one that debuted in the Audi A6 – along with extra connectivity features like Car-to-X service. The upgrades to the Q7’s powertrain is probably the most important of anything. The updated Q7 is not available as a mild-hybrid only, with that 48-volt electrical system now standard in all models from base to range-topping. There’s no official word on how this will affect performance, but it should, at the very least, improve fuel economy. A PHEV model will make its debut at a later time and is expected to have some 25 miles of all-electric range if not a little more. Exterior At the same time, the Q7 blends in with the rest of the Audi lineup, featuring headlamps, a singleframe grille and massive bumper intakes similar to those seen on many 2015 model year updates. Design-wise, the all-new Q7 proves that Audi can use more than just a few nips and tucks while redesigning a vehicle. The SUV’s body lines are now sharper, blending more squared-off surfaces front to rear. At the same time, the Q7 blends in with the rest of the Audi lineup, featuring headlamps, a singleframe grille and massive bumper intakes similar to those seen on many 2015 model year updates. On the other hand, the Q7’s huge grille connects to the headlights for a unique appearance. Changes are more subdued around back, where the new Q7 boasts a similar tailgate and a nearly identical bumper. Still, there are a lot of new features, including reshaped, narrower taillights and trapezoidal exhaust pipes. On the sides, the Q7’s trademark character line has been repositioned closer to the sills, while the waistline has been redesigned for a crisper look. If you find the all-new Q7 less bulky, then you eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. The rebuilt SUV is inches shorter and inches narrower, while its height remained virtually unchanged. More importantly, the new Q7 is a lot lighter, with certain trims weighing up to 716 pounds less when compared to the previous model. That’s a massive 26-percent drop from the first-gen Q7’s curb weight. Impressive! Most of the weight was dropped from the chassis, which is 220 pounds lighter, and the body structure, which weights 156 pounds less thanks to a new design. Customers get to choose between 11 exterior colors, four of which are new. An S line exterior package changes the standard bumpers, air inlets, side sills, roof spoiler the diffuser with sportier units, while the grille gets a dark gray, high-gloss finish instead of the standard high-gloss black. Exterior DimensionsSide-by-side comparison Interior Gone is the bulky center stack with its ancient A/C vents, knobs and display, now replaced by a taller center console. Although the new Q7 is shorter and narrower, the cabin is actually longer and offers more head room and boasts an additional inches between the first and second row of seats. Head room has increased by inches up front and inches in the second row. Cargo capacity has also increased. The seven-seat version offers cubic feet of storage room that increases to with the third-row seats folded. The five-seat comes with cubic feet, which increases to cubes with the second row folded flat. Design-wise, the redesigned interior is a massive departure compared to the first-generation’s cabin. Gone is the bulky center stack with its ancient A/C vents, knobs and display, now replaced by a taller center console. As a result, the A/C controls have been repositioned to the same level as the instrument cluster, while the display now resides on the dashboard. The latter also features a unitary design that stretches from the driver’s to the passenger’s side. A brand-new, three-spoke steering wheel replaces the previous unit, while the instrument cluster is all digital. Naturally, the new Q7’s cabin is packed with the finest materials we can expect from an automaker such as Audi. The seats can be wrapped in either Cricket or Valcona leather combined with Alcantara and there are seven different color combos to choose from. The high-grade leather is complemented by a host of aluminum and wood trims, including Beaufort walnut. There’s also a brand-new air conditioning system that uses fewer buttons and controls, with most options displayed on the TFT screen. The MMI system is also new, featuring intelligent suggestions for different tasks, including searching for specific song titles or navigation destinations. As far as entertainment goes, the Q7 comes with one or optionally two tablets as rear seat monitors. The tablet is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors, is temperature-resistant and connected to the MMI navigation. What’s more, it provides access to the radio, media, navigation and several car functions via WiFi. Drivetrain Lastly, and arguably the biggest news in the drivetrain department, is the introduction of the Q7 e-tron, the first plug-in hybrid from Audi to include a diesel engine. The redesigned Q7 launches with three different engines, with two additional drivetrains to becoming available at a later date. The gasoline lineup includes two units, a four-cylinder and a V-6. The four-banger — primarily developed for the Asian and the market, and first-ever four-cylinder in the Q7 — cranks out 252 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque. Performance and fuel consumption data has yet to be released, but I expect the TFSI SUV to become the most fuel efficient, gas-powered Q7 yet. Next in line is the V-6 making 333 ponies and 325 pound-feet of torque. With this powerplant under the hood, the Q7 sprints from naught to 62 mph in seconds and hits a top speed of 155 mph. With Audi having dropped the V-8 for the new Q7, this is the most powerful conventional unit you can order. The mill is expected to return about 30 mpg. Moving over to diesels, the familiar TDI churns 272 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, a 6-pony and 36-pound-feet improvement over the previous model. 62 mph comes in seconds, while top speed is limited to 145 mph. Expect fuel economy to sit at around 41 mpg. A second version of the turbo-diesel, V-6 will arrive at a later date with 218 horses and 369 pound-feet of twist. Lastly, and arguably the biggest news in the drivetrain department, is the introduction of the Q7 e-tron, the first plug-in hybrid from Audi to include a diesel engine. The same TDI is used here, but this time tuned to deliver 258 horsepower and it pairs to a 94 kW electric motor built into the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. The combo generates 373 horses and 516 pound-feet of torque, making the SUV the quickest of the new Q7 lineup with a 0-to-62 sprint of only six seconds. The e-tron can travel up to miles on electric power alone. When used as a hybrid, it consumes just liters of fuel per 100 km, which converts to around 138 mpg. In addition to the updated engines and the new plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the Q7 also gets a newly developed eight-speed, Tiptronic automatic transmission. Drivetrain SpecificationsPrices 2018 Audi Q7 PricesCompetitionBMW X5 Completely redesigned for the 2014 model year, the current X5 boasts the same bold styling, but numerous details upgrade it to BMW ’s refreshed design language. Higher-quality materials, improved comfort level, and updated technology are the main feats highlighting the revised interior. As far as engines are concerned, customers now have a choice of three powertrains. The range begins with the sDrive35i and xDrive35i models, which are motivated by a inline-six rated at 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping version, the xDrive50i, gets an impressive 445 horses and 480 pound-feet of torque from its V-8 unit. Lastly, there’s the xDrive35d, which uses a turbo-diesel making 255 ponies and 413 pound-feet of twist. The BMW X5 retails from $52,800. Read our full review on the BMW X5 here. Porsche Cayenne The second-gen Cayenne received its mid-cycle refresh for the 2015 model year, which brought revised front and rear fascias, a new steering wheel based on the 918 Spyder’s and revised seating for better comfort. Extensive changes occurred under the hood as well. The new S E-Hybrid model received 36 additional horses for a new output of 416 ponies, while Cayenne S had its oomph increased to 420 horsepower despite having its V-8 replaced with a V-6. The Cayenne Turbo now boasts 520 ponies and 553 pound-feet of torque, which accounts for a 20-horsepower gain and 37-pound-feet gain in twist. The Cayenne Diesel’s V-6 cranks out 240 horses and 406 pound-feet of torque. The 2015 Cayenne retails from $61,700, up $5,100 compared to the model it replaces. Conclusion It took Audi quite a few years to roll out a replacement for its full-size, luxury SUV, and looking at this brand-new Q7 I can understand why. The SUV can finally blend among its smaller siblings thanks to its crisper design, while its revamped interior is arguably the most modern of any Audis as of 2015. The big news is, of course, the introduction of the e-tron Quattro version, which makes the Q7 the first production hybrid with a diesel engine. The new Q7 has massive potential against its German competitors, and we might just witness a significant migration from BMW and Porsche to Audi dealerships in a year or so.
